The wheel turns

The wheel turns

As the wheel turns,
the drums are beginning,
freezing
the burning,
feeling their way in
into the darkness
to find the hidden lights.

I float
like Turtle
among acculturated dregs
drowning my element –
water flows calmly
underneath the surface
that has become my world.

I wade out into the beating current
and swim widdershins as it were
back into the deepest dark.

My muscles hurt
as fear feeds fear,
commanding me
to turn back –
there is nothing here but pain,
a soft voice whispers.

I cannot listen, I cannot
give up now
and continue swimming
for without light
I am suddenly not.

i find Her
at the river’s beginnings –
here light wells up
into being

i breathe fearless now
touching what was
misunderstood always

as the drums stop beating
the wheel turns again
into tears

another flow
feeding my world

Wonderfully well done John, loved the ebb and nuanced flow to it, and quite literally also.
Beautifully conveyed and enjoyed reading your spiritual poem.
