They Say

Write about anything

They say,

Or the first thing that comes to mind.

That which is in your heart,

Release from pen to page

The spiritual release we crave.

An exploration of the soul,

A thousand fantasies,

Or restless nights.

Thats what good writers do,

They say.

Give us words to linger like ghosts,

Within the lines.

I hang onto it with baited breath,

Like all I need from this world

Is one more sentence.

So just write,

They say.

Like this fire could be stoked

With an arsenal of ink and pages.

I lose myself in your chapters,

you don’t see me there,

Though I’ve never stopped trying.

Your words I cling to,

A welcome vacation of my mind

While I yearn for my pages to fill.

So pick up your quill,

Dip into my ink,

Evoke the words I’ve not strength to say.
