Thoughts of a wife on the return of her husband from military duty

Thoughts of a wife on the return of her husband from military duty

This hour; 5pm precise

It reminds me

The day you came home

From the war

Fighting in Afghanistan

I picked you up from the base

I brought you home

We put the children to bed

And I slept with you

I ripped your clothes off

Like before

But things were different

In your dreams

They were not sweet any more

There was war

There was a desert

There was blood

There was a gun

There was a death and you

Said to me;

I am not here

I am not here

I am not here

Wiping your brow,  the sweat

Dripping down

Into

The cushion

Where is my lover;

Thoughts of a

Wife

On the return of her husband

From military duty

One dark night

In a small army town

Arkansas

Step of the foot

Step of the foot

Nevertheless
Beneath
The dreadlocks
Beneath
The mohawk
The heart...

With these
Five

Thy hand killed
Strangled life...

Days of love and black...

Days of love and black bruises

Still
I
Think of
You
In My
Skin
My
Thick
