Poem -

THREE BROTHERS

THREE BROTHERS

This is a tale of brothers three

Benny, Lenny and the youngest me

From the North of England we all did dwell

We never caused any trouble so the neighbours tell

In 1939 however our lives would change forever more

When our call up papers arrived at our door

Benny and Lenny were stationed in France

A bomb destroyed their lives they had no chance

I survived the horrors of World War two

Came back to the North of England not knowing what to do

Families destroyed and men killed in the name of war

I came home and wondered what did I fight for

Mum cries herself to sleep every day

She thinks about her sons she lost along the way

With regards to me I always stop and wonder why

Why I should live and my brothers should die
