Three Women

She possesses catalog perfect beauty.
I could exhaust a dictionary speaking of her looks.
But deep seated anguish shadows her eyes.
There’s another beauty, immortalized in scripture.
She longs for picture perfection, a scar in her soul.
Sorrow is depicted in her penmanship, poise, and gait.
She can’t escape the sensation of ugliness—thus, she
Avoids mirrors, but her beauty is forever.
Another distorts reality, forsakes innocence, and begs
For the validation of strangers—thus, contentment
Is found in phantasmagorias: a false impression
Comforts the soul.
We can’t imagine the worth of our reflections,
Exploited by the world.

Excellent depiction of the superficial beauty the world seeks. I really like the way you contrast this with the inner pain that often seeks recognition through the external appearance.
