To My Unborn

To My Unborn

Here I lay, in my final hours on this bed
3 gunshot wounds and a hit to the head
Fought for my country and all I have done
Fought with my allies knowing we should've won
Phone ringing, pick up, it's my wife
Starting to fade out, is this the end of my life?
Don't cry honey, tears running as I smiled
I want you to write a letter to our unborn child

"For my unborn child, I want you to know that daddy will always be there for every step of the way.
When you first arrive into this world, I'll be there.
when you say your first words, I'll be there.
When you graduate school, I'll be there.
When you attend your wedding with that special someone, I'll be there.
You'll be there, your mother will be there, and I will be there, and I'll make a promise to you that when the time
comes and we finally get to meet, I won't be in pain, I won't be suffering and you will finally be able to meet
me, your father. I also ask that you take care of your mother, the one person that loves you more than anything in this world"

Loosing to much blood, almost time to quit
Doctors screaming over me saying I can make it
Putting the phone to her stomach as she blows on a tissue
Struggling to gasp for air as I whisper "I love you"
Taking my final breaths as I lay hear in bed
Heart monitor stops as they check a pulse "He's dead"
