Trepanning

Heres a hole in the head,
A halo for migraine,
A crucifix for satan,
A lazer beam to thwart the termites,
Short sharp shocks for tiny hammers,
short sharp shocks for the humming,
For noises in the head.
It's trepanning twisting and turning,
Its trepanning,
Going into the skull as a means of release,
A deep cut for those who find themselves disturbed,
a deep cut for those with mental impairments.
It's a strange superstition from the past,
A medieval practice,
A kind of key hole surgery from way back then,
A crude piece of surgery to let out the build up of tension,
an operation to take off the pressure and give a patient some respite,
A form of precision drilling that's mostly unorthodox and arcane.
It's fast relief for the psychotic,
fast relief for the neurotic,
A common cure for trepidation,
A common cure for madness that affects us all.

I feel like I need a treatment of this Victorian practice. Pass the rusty drill bit while I squash my skull a vice.
Nice write though - Syd
thanks for your comments Syd.
Laugh out loud!
They need to do something with my head?
Fantastic, Frantic!
Really, really cool.
Loved it.
Matthew.
thankyou Matthew
I've always found the whole trepanning rather bizarre and fascinating
You're so welcome.
It is really interesting, the weird things we humans do. Is it kind of like a lobotomy?
now you've given me an idea for another bit of verse....."Labotomy"
I like your thinking! Just remind me not to fall asleep on your couch if I'm ever over at your house! LOL!
Get writing, young lady, I can't wait to read it.
Matthew.
