TWO CUPS OF COFFEE TODAY

The waitress poured coffee into his mugĀ
He muttered a thanks and gave a shrug
Unhurried was he and no place to goĀ
Just watch people trudge through the snow

The coffee soon went he demanded a refill
Was still unhurried to face the cold winter chill
Watching the people outside looking so cold
Time to move him on the waitress was told

For this man was known by the waiting staff
In need of a home and in need of a bathĀ
Two cups of coffee this man had a good day
Longer indoors to keep the coldness at bay

As usual heated words were loudly spokenĀ
The warmth of indoors for this man now broken
Out on the streets to start begging once more
Hoping for a handout to visit that coffee store
