TWO OLD LADIES ON A PARK BENCH

Two old ladies were sitting on a park bench
One was truly English the other perfectly French
Best friends forever at least fifty years or more
Served their countries with honour during the war

These two old ladies lived only a few miles apart
Never been in love or known a sweetheart
They cared for each other like best friends do
Knew that heaven would be coming into view

Rose the English lady said to her friend one day
Soon I will be leaving you and be on my way
The French lady hugged her and started to cry
Dearest Rose my friend I don't want you to die

By the end of the week Rose had indeed died
Her French friend was with her by her side
French tears fell down her well worn cheek
Words left unsaid and so upset to speak
