Two Saturdays In February

Two Saturdays In February

I’ll never forget two past Saturdays, both in February, the second, your last;

On the first as a puppy, just barely eight months had then passed!

We were going to get family photos taken of us, and “don’t worry” Mommy was told;

For you were then quite so rambunctious, and she feared “still” you never would hold!

When we got there, the lady photographer; had some strange thing in her hand;

We didn’t know just what to think of it, but soon we would understand!

As she focused her camera, you started to move; then she blew on her loud kazoo;

You turned your head in astonished amazement, and she got lots of great shots of you!

The second’s the sad one; from Valentine’s Day, 2015;

In the morning you sickened, and off of all food, you yourself had to wean!

You laid down your little head for a rest, and slept for most of the day;

And instead of trading “Valentine’s love cards”, we prayed your illness go way!

But by Monday night we had lost you, the Doctors said they could not help;

You went to sleep forever that night; you’d made your final last yelp!

Two Saturdays in February, we’ll never forget, spent with our soulmated pet;

We’ll always remember the first joyous one, the second we’d rather forget!
