Unrequited

Unrequited

......and we laughed so much till our bellies and cheeks ached.

We ate good things; drank strong coffee to wake us up and strong spirits to make us dance.

We laid on the sand with the sun on full blast, tapping our toes to tinny music while dogs played in the waves and gulls swopped overhead.

We watched movies over and over that made us chuckle.

We shared songs that made us weep.

We talked into the wee small hours.

We spoke gobbledygook to one another  but understood perfectly.

We shared our time, our thoughts and sometimes, just sometimes when it was dark .......

We would kiss and we would hold tightly to one another.

But I was wrong, now I know, it was just me........ it was never we.
