Used to be
(A soppy one)

Would it hurt you to write an uplifting one?
One about how once you were more young
Than you find yourself now.
When it was like this, you're parents were still
In love.
But in our days most of the good ones aren't
As good as the old ones once were.
Might you ever come out of the age you were
Born to, see it right?
Ever wonder if things were just as tough as
Things seem to be today?
Mostly unrhyming tethers you to reason that's
gone.
How to know how it was is tricky business when
Versions abound, never much sense to make
Out of exactly what went on.
Still in our days most of the good ones aren't
As good as the old ones once were.

I don't have kids, though, so I went the other way
Free verse Is Just as hard to write as rhyme, having experience to share in ones work is why we have that connection of relatement and I truly believe that the only person who should truly love the poem is the author, so there. Not everyone enjoyed what Bukowski wrote because he wrote much about whores and alcohol, but even though I am a woman, I truly enjoy his work because it's alive. You are alive too. Your work is unique as it should be. 🌹
I wasn't happy with it either
I have an enormous soft spot for poems that rhyme. Done well, rhyming is awesome. However, I also enjoy poems that don't rhyme, if they are done well. I think it all boils down to meter. It's very hard to get a good flow without rhyme, but you've done it really well here! I love your poem.
Times change and people change with the times. But emotion? Emotion doesn't change. We still feel the same feelings whether it be the flush of first love or the cold hard fear of impending doom. And everything in-between of course x
Thank you for saying BM
Well I think Shirly and BM have said it perfectly. Me? I just like it. x
Poetry, like any art form or indeed beauty is entirely in the eye of the beholder .. I like all forms, but have a special thing about words .. and I like narrative poems when done well .. I certainly enjoyed my visit here today .. Neville
