VASHTI, CROWNED ROYAL! (Esther 1:1-12)
The palace a Shushan is my stately abode.
I am Queen, proud, and beautiful to behold!
My King and I rule from Indian to Ethiopia!
Our kingdom is a vast and rich utopia.
There have been games and displays of pageantry
To honor the throne and the King's excellent majesty.
The powers of Persia and Media are in attendance;
My husband demands their loyalty and obedience!
The princes celebrate and indulge their pleasure.
The finest of wines flow in endless measure!
I and the Royal Women enjoy our special feast
Of succulent delicacies and tasty sweet meats!
My court and hanging gardens are beautifully arrayed
With couches upon tiled floors where lovers are portrayed.
This day, seven chamberlainĀ had a missive from the King
Commanding my presence, as if I were a simple hireling,
To exhibit my crown and bejeweled person to noblemen;
For my beauty and grace he wish them to commend.
"Tell the King, I will not, I'm no concubine!
Nor simpering, perfumed virgin waiting in line!"
Why would he dare to shame me so?
Must I appear unclothed to assuage his ego?
"I am a King's Daughter, yet he asks this of me!
No, he shall not insult the depths of my dignity!"
The King's advisors gossip that I am disloyal.
But I am Vashti, I am Queen and Crowned Royal!
