Waiting

I sit here.......waiting.
A glass of red wine on the table looking accusingly at me as if to say I shouldn't be here.....
Waiting

But I am still here.
My manicured nails tap the side of the glass,
Legs crossed, my foot moves up and down making a slapping noise on the tiled floor.
Impatiently or perhaps patiently I sit.....
Waiting

Impatiently I scan every face.
My heart leaps at the sound of a voice close by,
I look up expectantly but nobody joins me.
Impatiently I pick up the glass and tip the wine down my throat drinking in its richness and ask the waiter to bring another while I sit.....
Waiting

Patiently I sit back in my seat, another glass of red wine on the table in front of me.
I breathe in deeply, a sigh escapes my lips.
I know that he is not coming back, that he is gone forever
but in my dreams he will return.
So each night I will come to the cafe and sit at the same table drinking wine.....
Waiting
