Walking Healer

Walking Healer

She has walked her walk a thousand times,
and a thousand times again.
She has talked to those who cling to life,
and has offered them her hand.

She laughs and loves and cries with them,
for they are more than common friends.
She brings them home each night with her,
though they stay behind to mend.

For with battered resolve their watchers on
have made promises she must keep.
So through prayers and dreams she carries on,
for her foe will never sleep.

"You will be ok, my son.
My daughter...
My little one..."

For with familiar echo of path re-trotted,
and a trail of sighs and minds less knotted.
Our hero returns to seize the day,
and to heal the life that we have started.

Thanks, all.  This one is dedicated to my amazing wife, who has devoted her life to pediatric oncology for the past 20 years.

She is a hero through and through.
