Poem -

WAR LEAVE

She held his hand tight and not letting go
Daddy will have to go soon Mummy said so
War leave goes by in the blink of an eye
Fighting in a war his child didn't know why

The two weeks leave is just never enough
Never time to do all that planned stuff
Now the tears flowed like running tap water
Hard for both his wife and daughter

"Goodbye Daddy be safe" his daughter said
Prayed for his safety before going to bed
Daddy then left by the ancient front door
Going back to fight in this unnecessary war

Daddy was fortunate he came home alive
So many soldiers didn't in the year of 45
Daughter was reunited with Daddy at last
Both trying to forget that horrible past
