Poem -

We, I, Us

We, I, Us

Hurt me slowly.

So I might feelΒ

your breath on my lipsΒ

As the sun inside me sets.

While you walk my horizon

Will you mourn for meΒ

As I have you every living day?

When I free you to the world

Will you return to meΒ

With wisdom of every perched lip

And broken heart?

Shall we dance to this our final song

With bodies locked togetherΒ

Finding refuge in each other’s skin?

Can you lose yourself in me

As I have you

Like sacrificial lamb to the alter?

Why do we open each other

Like books we know hold bitter endings?

The pages burn and wilt and cry

While we dance in this house on fire.

Where shall you explore

When my land is dirt and ashes?

Will you ache for me in moments lost,

When the memory is melancholy?
