Weathered Wisdom

The old aren't hard of hearingÂ
They've heard enough in their life
They tune out when they've heard it all beforeÂ
Looking through you...DaydreamingÂ
Only liking to talk and never listen
Spouting precious wisdom
I struggle to get a word in edge ways
Briefly angered when they cut me off....
but I always forgive them
Yes the old are worn and weatheredÂ
Full of antique memoriesÂ
Like a treasure chest...
To have a neighbor
Rich in life and knowledgeÂ
I feel truly blessedÂ
My elderly neighbor talks for hours
Mainly stories from his past
From euthanasia to gardeningÂ
I selfishly wish his life everlasts

Great write Syd.Â
I lost a great friend on Monday. She was in her eighties and passed peacefully but her passing brought it home to me that she did so much in her life and I have done so little. I will forever miss her wisdom.Â

I'm so sorry to hear that Nigel. I hope you are coping as well as can be expected in such circumstances.
Take care - SydÂ
Syd!! You've written a lovely poem on the wisdom that comes with age and the friendship that builds from it. This really is a great poem. Pinned ? x
Thank you. This poem is quite out of character for me but I find it easier to write about experiences and emotions that I have felt and lived through.
Sometimes other peoples lives and wisdom are fascinating and deserve recognition.
This will more than likely be my most palatable write of 2020.
Take care - SydÂ
