THE WEDDING IN HER MIND

She had come eagerly, out onto
The course at nine,
With a linen curse hanging about her
Angry aura of which a strangling cry
Had crawled
Running chaos in her mind
Her nurse yelling after her, "Come in! It's after nine!",
But in her mind he was calling her
She just couldn't waste the time
The time became her demon
Haunting her
Each day at nine, she'd lose her mind
All the while
Her wedding day, the sun, the lovely feeling of it
A symphony, she could dance to
Each evening at stroke of nine
Her nurse compelled her, yelled at her
And yet her wedding day
Slowly melted her face into a smile
She spoke to the nurse from a calm and serenity
"I know the time young woman, take your hands from me!"
She danced her way back to her little lost place
And pretended to be sipping wine
She knew she had only 18 days
Before she was released
In her head she smiled, the day is here
Sweet freedom will be mine, she thought, and sighed
The medication they forced
She tongued it, every time, she gotten so damn good at it
That she had secret box
Where she kept it all, she thought maybe 500 bucks
Street value, "No way!" at least double that today
A box filled with Xanax, Valium, and Vicodin
Ah hell, she didn't know
She'd been in this place
So long, she winced at the thought of freedom
Truly frightened, the midnight conversations
She held in confidence
The hallucinations had become her only friends
The dances on her wedding day
would they slip away, she thought
She grabbed her head
Fell to her knees
Never uttered another word again......
For all the pills, and hallucinations
Had become the place she lived
No letting go, she thought
Fuck freedom, and all the hates
And all the lies
Freedom comes
But at a price
Much to big for her
Easier inside
Much easier
Alone, so lonely
When suddenly a familiar friend
And she danced, and she danced, the clock had rang a nine
Her wedding made her smile
And she danced, and she danced, with a knowing smile
She danced until she was eighty years old
And it was on her fabulous wedding day
That she quietly lay down and died
Her nurse stood staring at the clock
The time was nine o'clock............
