WEEKLY CONTEST ~ "Black Poppies"
For the intuitive
The daring of death ~ lingers here
Like ashes, darkening the dance floor
And making it hard to breathe
An ominous, yet subtle,
Presence is felt
-------------------------------
It circles the room
Seeking a weakness
Like tar, slowly creeping
Blackening its own heart,
Building the courage
To cut wide her throat,
Envisioning
The moment to come
It begins to salivate
Over the potential for blood,
It hums to itself
The "Black Poppies" song,
The shadows reveal her
As she dances along
Then grasping its blade
It moves through the throng
And in one deft motion
It opens her throat,
She falls to the ground
And the pulsating crowd
Never notices,
It just dances along
To the more than memorable
"Black Poppies" song...

The imagery is disturbingly blood-curdling, the phrasing oddly beautiful and accomplished.
