Well Of War

Tribute to those lost to the First World War battlefield.

This land looks as barren and bleak as it ever has.
It ably mirrors the dismay and total helplessness !
He surveys the hell as though this is all there was.
Lost in the well of war he cannot climb from darkness.

Conflict is now his life until tragic fate intervenes.
He gives himself no hope of survival in the terrain.
All about is designed to create maddening screams.
His grave will be a shell crater shrouded in pure pain.

War is now transformed into a be-all and end-all.
He cannot remember the past he had a stake in !
There is nothing to do but fight until a downfall !
There is nothing that could ever be considered a win.
