What comes...

Sun settles, slowly dying,
Sinking deep, to earthy grave.
Eyes wide, silent lying,
Creeping shadows, no more brave.
Gripping fear, as fingers spread,
Black devours, vivid veins.
Heart pounds, imminent dread,
Cantankerous vista, swart stains.
Fear let loose, within confines,
Wriggles more, oh so near.
Widened eyes, no sleep defines,
As worst mares, become so clear.
Though no more in our prime,
Eternal death does at us stare.
Creeping nearer, heart stops time,
Rigor mortis, etched with loving care.
