Poem -

What school is really teaching

Have you ever wondered
Why in school they teach
You to sit and smile and obey
They tell you to
Sit here
Go there
Too noisy
Are we just mechanisms?
Pieces in a well oiled machine?
Placed here to do what they want
No free will of our own
Encouraging individuality
But crushing our sense of self
Shoes must be black
Uniform shirt unchanged
Individuality gone
Past these gates
You are supposed to be the same
You must sit when told
You must speak when told
You cannot stand out
A prison in disguise
Though our uniforms differ
From prisoners
That does not mean we are free
A cold bubble
Surrounds us
No touching
No kissing
No hugging
It's a cold school indeed
You say you are good
But teach useless things
How is it
That i know nothing
Of checkbooks and taxes
But i can solve a triangle
Why do i do speeches
And assignments and tests
Yet am not told of
Buying a house or car
You strive for
Education
Freedom
And individuality
Yet we know next to nothing
Yet we can only do what you say
Yet we are not allowed jewellery
Or the hair we want
Or even to choose the colour of
Our shoes and socks
You tell us we are young
And do not know what we want
Yet hand us the paper
That decides our future
Do not take away our rights
As human beings
And call it fair
