What's Better Than A Walk?

What’s Better Than a Walk?

By: Emily Allegar

What is better than a walk in the woods?

  A trickling creek,

And mountains rolling in the distance

     Far away.

Feeling so small beneath the towering trees swaying in the wind

       Dancing.

Small insects sweep through the air soundly all around one might stop for a sip

As they glide across the top of the water.

Laying under the boundless blue sky looking toward it like a mouse beholding a giant

I would not change these silent moments in time for the world.

Although forever moving, nothing stays the same

Fish large and small sweep stealthy through me, left and right

                   Up and down.

Rocks finding their way down from the steep edges of the surrounding walls and crashing roughly into me.

Almost everything ends up here at the bottom of  the dark green creek

In the heat of summer this place is a haven for large and small

In the freeze of winter everything stands still

                              until the spring thaw
