When I Was Dead

When I Was Dead

When I Was Dead

When I was dead
I could still see
A herd of wild
White horses …

Their foaming
Salty mouths
Their manes and tails
Were all about me …

And only when
I struggled not
Against the waves
Exhausted …

Did they concede
A hoard of them and
Collectively escort me
Face down unto the harbour

Wowsers Neville, the imagery in this is fabtastic my friend. I must confess I got images of those horses in the Guinness advert. They charge out of the waves. Do you know the advert? A great write, I felt submerged

Being Me

Oh wow!  Not horses but drowning! I think this is one of the most beautiful poems I have read on here. Action and imagery floods the readers mind. Awesome work 👏👏👏👏 x

Neville did you have an NDE?? ...I mean where you died ànd came back and remembered stuff?? I am obsessed with Near Death Experiences recently for obvious reasons...wow, I'm dying to have one so that I can be sure my son is in a good place. I.know that would mean nearly dying but hey ho....anything for a bit of proof. Stunning write x

Hi Marion & good evening ..
Yes, I almost drowned in a swimming pool many years ago when I was working in Bath .. actually it was my own fault as I was taking a dip in the early hours and tried to swim through a rigid plastic tunnel thingy that you can find in childrens playgrounds etc .. I tried to swim through it but got stuck half way and could not move my arms or legs .. My life did flash before my eyes and I did hear the voice of my Grandma .. I was rescued by a very fit Dutch colleague Marrette who must have been woken by my initial splash .. either that or she needed a tinkle .......

Thank you so much for the glowing review Marion, always and muchly appreciated me lovely :) x

The fish of the sea

Hi Neville, I just wanted to say that I have really been enjoying your recent writes of poetry and especially this one in particular. Has a unique feeling to it, as if caught in a dream. I especially like the use of crazed horses, it brings a sense of chaos and profanity, whilst being inky black in mystery. Truly a brilliantly crafted poem, one of the many reasons I decided to follow your work. Enjoyed Neville!
