When They Come Marching

When they come marching
Down the front lines,
We will be there waiting,
As the winds sway the pines.
When they draw their swords,
Ready to strike,
We will cry these words,
No matter the price.
We will sacrifice all,
We will leave behind none.
We will fight with spirits
Burning with like that of a thousand suns.
And when we go back home,
Bone-weary and weeping,
To the sights of our children
Innocently sleeping,
We will look to the heavens
With undying gratitude,
For blessing us all with the moral fortitude
To be able to fight on and on,
To the ceaseless dawn,
And be able to return
And feel the sun
Smile down on us
And praise our bravery,
For freeing those souls
Bound in slavery
From their minds and their bodies,
Their hearts and their souls,
For bringing warmth
Back into this world, so dark and cold.
And when the come marching,
Yes, down the front lines,
Believe me when I say
We will stay here waiting,
As steadfast as the pines.
