Where Moons Upon Their Axis Wane

Which distant world
Above my head
Do you stand on
The banished dead
And do you see me
Standing here on mine
Do you, like me
Gaze out and feel
The vastness of
Eternity, the hollow air
The black black space between
And do you stand
Alone like I, a soul alone
And maybe cry
The hopelessness a weight to
bear
The loneliness
A cloak to wear
On bitter nights
On banished worlds
Where moons upon their axis
wane
And maybe wonder
How to find...
Again
And does a god
Exist for you
On banished worlds
In exile too
A god for you
A god with you, I squeeze my
eyes and will it true
On banished worlds
Up there
Above my head

This is brilliant!
Stand out lines for me are
"And do you stand
Alone like I, a soul alone
And maybe cry
The hopelessness a weight to
bear
The loneliness
A cloak to wear"
and also
"And does a god
Exit for you
On banished worlds
In exile too"
I love the starkness in this, but despite the pain and loneliness, this poem also feels and reads like a thing of beauty. It is whole in its brokenness. Brilliantly written xx
I'm really glad you liked it Tina...I think we all stand and look up at the vast cosmos sometimes...wonder where in all that blackness our loved ones are. I'm not sure if moons spin.on axis mind...I think they are just held by the planets gravity. Whatever...poetic liscence...I will have to ask Brian...of the 'Cox' variety. 😆😊x
Haha..now, if my memory serves me right there's people on here who are not too keen on Professor Brian! Lol... Were we not having to fight his corner? It was a while ago now!
FWIW, I think the awesome Brian Cox would very much like this poem and totally agree on your fabulous use of poetic license! xx
Yea I remember lol...I blocked him 😄😄😄
🤣 Nice one!!
😆😆😆😆...nobody criticises my Bri....😆😆😆
Only a fool would do that! 🤣🤣🤣 x
You make reading a true joy no matter the place you take me, your reader to.
Oh thankyou Mark..sincerely...that's a lovely comment x
stopped by to read again. its a blessing to have it close at hand.
You are so kind Mark...you really are.
thankyou my friend x
I sure love the title line too ....
and as far as I know, moons do upon their axis, wane.
I'll never look at the moon again without your line coming to mind.
Personally I can never look at the moon these days without thinking of the faeces, urine and vomit we have left up there. Humans are vile Mark...hugs x
Marion,
You make me smile and recalibrate for a moment.
Nevertheless, whenever i look to the moon now, i will often, if not always, remember this very beautiful poem and the honest human soul inspired to write it.
permission to print and frame it?
Of course you can Mark...I am honoured you should want to...hugs x
Done!
