Whispering Windows

At night-
When Iβm supposed to be sleeping-
I lay awake just listening, to the screaming-
To the whispers no one thinks Iβll hear-
When the sun clicks off and the nightlight's flick on-
I creep up to the window and justβ¦listen-
To all the late hour conversations-
And midnight confrontations-
Just wondering, if Iβm the only one to hear-
But answers, they donβt just appear-
So Iβll keep listening to each βI love youβ said to a stranger that wasnβt their lover-
Or each frantic cry of a person shoved by another-
And I remember each βgoodnightβ, βsee you tomorrowβ-
And the infamous βweβre done!β β
But we both know youβll forget your promise by the time you see the sun-
You see, Iβm beginning to think I have a problem, I just canβt stop-
Holding my breath to hear the almost silent sound of gossip-
Or opening my window just a bit wider-
So I can see outside my little blue room-
And from my one window, you canβt see the moon-
So Iβve stopped looking for it, instead, I look down to the street-
Where people share secrets not meant for my ears-
Or speak of things beyond my years-
But I am never disappointed-
Because the window always whispers-
The most wonderful things-
