White Out

~WHITE OUT

Blowing snow in a
Winter's gale.
Piles of white
strewn about.

Quickly forming
snowy beds
where ice crystals
rest their heads.

As the snow whitened day
turns into night
an image is seen
in the fading light.

An unfortunate creature
caught in the storm,
no longer moving,
no longer warm.

This reddened blur
that someone had loved,
that someone had named
and called their own.

This tortured beast
stands anchored fast
it's life force drained
by Winter's blast.

Soon all that remains
is the curtain of white.
A blowing wind.
A frozen night.

Morning comes
and the storm is done,
the bright sun shining
over the icy sheen.

White out has come
and now is gone.
A  red roan claimed
as it's own.

Earth to earth
ashes to ashes.
White out's snows
are all that have lasted.
