Why?

~WHY

Why do I hate you
and you hate me
we two
who know nothing
of each other?

Was it a look  I gave
or
something I said
that keeps us at each other's throats?

We two who
stand so close to death's door
with only
a veil between.

Is it right
that we live in spite
so willing
to hurt each other?

What can change
our hating hearts
and cause
us to forgive?

I will forgive you.
Will you forgive me?
Can we start over
with a kind word or two?

Or shall we remain in pain,
aloof and noses high
with daggers
in our hearts?

Never knowing what could have been
of friendship
that is gone
forever.

Shall we be
dead to each other,
lost causes
in this world of pain?

Or shall we mend
our troubled souls
and begin again?
