Poem -

Wild Flower

Outside, it rained...

A deluge of destruction...death!

The sky above hurled down its wrath,

From a clear, crisp sky,

To erupt in masonry plumes!

Earth shaking applause,

Whilst banshees, screaming-sing,

Warning all of impending catastrophe!Β

Implosion and explosions upon the ear,

Like godly hands thunder claps,

Rent sanity from silence,

Leaving peace shattered upon the floor.

Tiny, petulant, spoiled steel bees,

Stirred up, surging outwards bidden,

Stinging, biting, gouging all in its wrathful path!

Two lone figures, forlornly quake,

Make shift shelter ruined...

Cowering, scared, huddled tight!

Β A woman groans, plying the sky with pleas,

A stop to mans uncontrolled anger,

Yet no succour can be garnered.Β

Bloated belly, distended for release,

Only a man for deliverance,Β

With soothing, softly spoken words,

Drowned out by wars requiem,Β

A cacophonous pounding of obliteration,Β

Leaving footprints of pocked holes,

Upon the earth's body,

Exposing bones of barren flesh!

Painful tearing of over stretched flesh,

As eager babe waits not on peril,

Tears the mother beyond repair,

To bleed red upon dying earth.

Wail of new joins cries of old,

As child enters cruelly into cruel world.

From mangled abode, a river flows unabated,

Staunched in part by crimson towel,

Not enough to save but prolong...

Saddened eyes with tears streaming,

Observes a mothers love,

Bestowed freely, as she cradles close.

Fathers hand clutches tight,

As the baby latches on,

Sups deeply of maternal bosom,

First yet sadly last...

Cold creeps silently upon the flesh,

As fathers wail joins the hideous barage of noise.

Gone to soon from mortal realm,

Heart in two within his chest.

Mothers smile frozen in place,

A proud, loving smile for a moments bliss,

Child still protectively in her embrace.

Slowly child, naked pried from mothers grasp,

Sever tie to mothers womb,

Child held to fathers chest,

Comforted by sobs uncontrollable...

Soothed, eyes of babe does close unawares,

Of Deaths hand upon mothers form.

Silence creeps out unannounced,Β

To peek upon a troubled tableau...

Tired eyes watch child in peaceful slumber,

As spark of hope dimly burns.

Outside singing angels have stopped their dirge,

To watch silent shapes lurk the ruins,

Seeking to bestow the kiss of death, upon other fellows.

Father cowers holding silent babe,

Satisfied upon final victuals of mothers breast,

Now cold as winters touch...

Waiting for the cackling burst of spewing mouths,

Spitting forth seeds of ending,

Never to blosom as they are barren.

Whizzing noises all about abound,

As harbingers hearld mens untimely ends.

Single ricochet does find a home...

One not meant for it,

Discrimination forgotten, as flesh is flesh.

Quitely...father sits,

Feeling a warm river upon his back,

Blood leaks sedately from clenched lips,

As single tear escapes his eye.

Silent kiss lingered upon fragile forehead,

Leaves red lips behind.

Sagging forward, life spent,

Final embrace, child between,

Family together in love entwined,

Father departs to whimpered mewls.

Evaporating warmth bestowed,

Parting gift...maybe never known,

Slender chance for survival,

If only found...

***

Death partakes of this glutinous feast,

Reaping helter skelter, with no remorse.

Within his chest, like many men,

A black heart beats...

Yet unbeknownst it still bleeds red.

Hardened men, with killing lust,

Lurk and hunt, to slaughter all.

Stumbling, falling, spared by Death,

Single man, wades through bloodied terrain.

Months, years of diligent work erected,

Torn asunder in mere seconds,

So like a human life...

Chest a fire, burning limbs,

Seeking, searching safe refuge.

Tripping, stumbling, falling down within,

Upon a scene of loving entanglement,Β

Family of three bereft of life,

Smiling...uncannily.Β

Inside he is already dead,

So no emotion does he exude,

As like others, he is already lost!

Inside stripped bare like city all about

Like the denuded buildings jagged bones,

That claw skyward, beseeching help,

He yearns to be saved...

Head upon chest sagged,

Sleep steals stealthily upon,

Even betwixt the corpses,

Some kind of peace can be found,

Even if only for a moment...

Shrill scream, sleep succumbs,

Soldier awakens, now alert,

Stares in abject horror upon the babe.

Eyes wide, disbelief in abundance,Β

Trembling, releases child, rifle forgotten.Β

How?

Sudden pang of panic as beasts begin to roar,

Devils and Angels once more vigorously sing,

Upon his brow, what for to do,

As doubt gnaws upon his deadened soul.

Seconds pass as if hours,

As Devils struggle with Angels,

Thoughts fled as dew before the sun.

Small spark of hope ignites,

A fire within a heart,

Blackened by cruel, cruel society,

Fed on hate and disparaging lies.

Wrapping naked babe within his jersey,

Snuggled now in woolen warmth,

Quite seeps from her tiny lips.

Smiling down upon this fragile flower,

Soft kiss upon her head,

Unspoken promise to protect.

The soldier flees the madness,Β

Baby clutched to him tight,

Rifle forgotten within the tomb,

Never to bark its command of death,

As the sun begins to set,

As ravens caw and begin their feast.

A man stumbles to find their freedom...

Time

Specs of conscious dust,
Born from darkness
In life...till death,
In a fleeting moment...

Knife twist

Cold whetted steel
Pierces my heart,
As she twists the blade
And sadly smiles.
