Winter's Gift

If you’ve never seen a falling snow

Then you have never truly experienced the softness of winter

As if on cue

Each flake begins parachuting in

Like little flecks of cotton gracefully gliding towards us

From a place that stretches far beyond the tallest high rise

Seeing the floating snow is like watching time suspended in mid air

It seems to culminate the celebration of a most joyous season

Its descent is like heaven’s confetti

Showering the earth in slow motion

The sky instantly becomes this magical winter wonderland

Like an enormous blue canvass

Speckled with millions of moving polka dots

Meticulously traveling towards a predetermined destination

That of which, can seem like hours to reach

Appearing to clandestinely embark on a quiet little journey towards earth

The flakes begin to gently settle

Carelessly nestling into every last available crevice

Without making so much as the slightest sound

And though calming

It tends to provoke an exhilarating energy among the masses

One where snow angels are made and the amicable voices of caroling are heard

The melodic clanging of chimes and the crackles of kindling

Bellowing church bells and so many gleeful spirits on welcome display

Where giving is foremost in our minds

And for at least this short period, all seems right within the universe

There are just not many things quite as beautiful as a falling snow

It’s as if this is winter’s gift to the world
