Wistful Youth

Years pass by,
longing to be old.
Passing memories,
become stories told.
Youth spent,
timeless and free.
Moments gone,
once full of glee.
Scraped knees,
running through grass.
Laughing out loud ,
when you fall on your ass.
Ice cream galore,
in summers Sun.
Screw ball cones,
hiding bubble-gum.
Kites fly high,
some fly low.
Rarely homemade,
all tied with a bow.
Games with swords,
playing castles and queens.
Or hiding treasure,
and collecting magic beans.
Teenage years smoking,
and taking risks.
Choosing subjects,
from designated lists.
Magical prom night,
With a destined prom date.
Dancing and laughing,
with your best mate.
Then to decide,
What you will become.
Being told by society,
You need to earn a good income.
Just like that,
in a blink of an eye.
You grow up so fast,
and childhood waves goodbye.
