Withering Away (Inspired by To the Bone on Netflix)
A pale girl sits
shrouded in darkness.
The voice in her head
has told her it's to late
and its time to stop.Β
There is no turning back now.Β
Her hair covers her face,
it rests against cheekbones,Β
sharp as razors,
and lips,
cracked and dryΒ
like mistreated leather.Β
The bones of her hips
and ribs jutΒ out,Β
clearly visible,Β
yet hidden by the baggy cloth of her sweater.Β
Only skin and bone remained of the girl.Β
She had reached the bottom,Β
the lowest of lows.Β
She could only help herself
if she ignored the voice.Β
To climb out of the pit,Β
away from the disease
would be no easy task.Β
But alas,Β
there were those who loved her
and she finally realizedΒ
that she needed to listen to their words,Β
and not the self destructive words
of her damning disease.Β

The imagery is chilling and vivid...the tone: fittingly cold. But what makes this poem really work is the sparseness of the language.
Excellent piece!!
{Hope you're feeling a little better, Lily}

Thank you Jason! it's always a pleasure to have you comment on my writes. This one came to me out of the blue after telling a co worker about the movie. I tried combining lines with one another but it never looked right or flowed so I just wrote it how it appeared in my mind.Β
Thank you again! :)
{Yes, I am feeling much better but still a bit of writer's block going on}

Hi Lilly,
sometimes the lack of words sends the greatest message- you have composed this piece perfectly and I just love it! Very well done!
