Wolf Pack

       Dusk ignites a maelstrom

       of howls, yips and barks.

       It gnaws at the light

       and prowls for companionship.

It is the owl and moon that answer

       with their stark stares,

        hunger that bares

        open jaws and gleaming teeth.

        Clouds gather en masse

         and muster a growl

         from deep in the throat,

         coalesce the wind

         and twitch the nose. Tracks

         of a frightened rabbit

cross a field of powdered snow.

A pack of eyes like embers glow.
