Poem -

Worth My Smiling

And I wanted you to tell me not to go
To take my suitcase right out of my hand
And hold me close
I wanted you to tell me things would work out fine
That I didn’t need to leave, that you were mine
And tell me things didn’t have to be that way
And it could be just the same as yesterday
We wouldn’t have to fight or cry but just be glad
To be on each other’s side
But you didn’t run after me
You didn’t chase me down
Instead you waved goodbye to me
Without a single sound
There were no tears
There was no smile
If only you knew I broke down after the first mile
Leaving you was the hardest thing to do
And all I wanted was a call from you
But when I never received one I had to move on
Because at that point I was already long gone
Looking back I understand why you let me go
It was either because I didn’t love you enough
Or you just truly didn’t know
And even though you’ll never read this
And have probably forgotten all about me
I’ll always look back at this
And realize we had a shot
And that’s worth my smiling
