It all starts with a smile 
A simple welcome sign to others that you are open to the idea that other people appreciate the kindness of a stranger 
Problem with that is that there are so many twisted fucknuts out there that the smile becomes interpreted as some kind of threat. At that time you feel your built in fight or flight mechanism kick in and you choose the flight mode.
