“You can’t see the wood for the trees”

She told me she was an ugly sight as she hid her face from me
But as she spoke her words were whispers sounding such sweet melody
I never said a single thing and just listened to what she said
“Please do not be offended but I shall keep this hood over my head”
I coud sense her uneasiness as my mouth made a frown
She moved with some uncertainty and held her hood tightly down
Here she stood about a step away from me with her face against the wall
Lacking in self confidence from her recent rise and fall
Slightly stooped from her somber mood and it all made perfect sense to me
Whatever she thought about herself
was her delusional unreality
“You have caught me on a bad day I have no makeup on my face and I look terrible without it and my hair’s all over the place”
“My dear girl” I spoke to her “Do not let vanity drag you down, hold your pretty head high and remove your hooded gown”
So not another word was spoken when she revealed her ashen face
A tear was rolling down her cheek yet she looked so full of grace
“Makeup is your misconception my dear and not necessary at all, you have a face that tells a thousand stories, never hide behind a wall”
I left her in bewilderment whilst I had hoped she would be at ease
what I uttered as I was walking away “You can’t see the wood for the trees”
But then something suddenly hit me as her words spun around in my mind
Did she think makeup on her face would render one blind ?
