Poem -

you fall asleep awake

 you fall asleep awake

On the long porch with liberal shade like a cool blanket
in a hammock swaying above planks as walnut as twilight
as a breeze slithers over high noon in cool shoes
and the birds; their nameless opera-
repeating in the quiet
like a lost thought
remembering something
out loud.

you fall asleep awake.
