Your Order Open Sesame

Your Order Open Sesame

It wasn’t dark
It wasn’t cold
I wasn’t young
I wasn’t old
Yet it did age me
And probably severely so
It loomed over like a dark cloud could be
No matter which way I would choose to go
But my survival instincts kicked in
I was determined that I would win
Even if I could not have an end I could see
I would not let that unfortunate victim be me
I felt it, I spoke up and used words to overcome
 A compromise was struck
And nothing happened with a bit of luck
I was scared but I knew I had won
It was over, it was done
I didn’t like it, as no one over has
But I have my power
Now that its locked inside me instead of an ivory tower
But my outside is hardened
But now I don’t have to pretend
Because I know that they misunderstood
But with my power to overcome, I knew I could

Katie (Ms. Moore),

I wish I had more time to get around to reading more work on this site. How many jewels go undiscovered? These lines: "It aged me..."; "Now my outside is hardened..." whatever conflict you compromised with, opened something wonderful inside of you. Are you familiar with this quote: "That which doesn't kill us, makes us stronger". Great piece "...Open Sesame"- not to mention clever. I feel like a schoolboy again. Congratulations on your prize- well deserved. I'll look for more of your work.
