Breakfast Antics

The blue couch was red with fury, and I was silently hoping that the air’s thick menacing feeling couldn’t be real. The only thing that seemed to be left untouched by it was my ring thrown into the corner with the toaster, in the heat of the argument the night before. I walked to it, feeling the pins and needles of the carpets defensive attack in every step I took. I held my hand out, stretching to fit into the seemingly narrowing corner, the ring feeling farther and farther away. Yet, as soon as it was in my hand its metallic coolness over powered its surroundings. I felt safe as a long lost memory emerged from its dank dark corner it lit.
... Your arms wrapped around one at a time, pulling me into your warm, safe, loving, embrace. Serenity... My sweet blissful serenity...
It was fading, and I fought the feelings churning about the room. I slipped it on my left ring finger and then...Â
... A cool breeze separated us, forcing us to move apart. Was it just for a quick moment, or forever? I wanted to stay in your warm embrace for eternity. As I felt your hand lightly trace my face, I sighed with relief as you pulled me back close. I melted into your touch. I think I started leaning in first but it turned into our first kiss as our lips touched...
Feeling the ring’s smooth metal, the room cleared. I sat bolt upright in bed, trying to shake off the shock while trying to pry the crust from my still sleepy eyes. I felt for him and he wasn’t there. When the first light of the pre-dawn lit sky danced across the window shades that were closed to the outside world, the bedroom door cracked open. He gave me a kiss.Â
“Time for breakfast, sweetie.” He said.
I knew he had turned off the toaster this time.Â

WOW KATIE!!.......I just wrote you a long review on this piece but when I hit the save button it vanished.......so let me just re-cap by saying that this was very creative prose and compelling use of syntax to hold together the imagery that you used to create such an original voicing here that I felt like you could certainly do some great sci-fi type delivery.  You took me into the whole couch and toaster-ness of this piece with great ease of continuity. I had NO IDEA that there was this kind of talent in the storytelling portion of this site.........gonna have to read more........you just made a follower out of me when I have only been involved with the poetry side of COSMO........so glad I caught this from the side-bar!!......VERY creative.........ALL STARS    PINNED.......your newest cyber-friend and admirer.........T xo
Thanks Tony! :)Â
