Dunstaffnage Castle

Built before 1275, and a mighty Stronghold of Clan MacDougall - captured by Robert the Bruce in 1309...remaining in Royal possession for some years.
The castle became a temporary prison for Flora MacDonald in 1746. The location, overlooking the Firth of Lorn, illustrates why the MacDougall Chief built his castle where he did!
Dunstaffnage castle is a fond local icon and touches the history of the artist's wife's family history, as her maiden name is MacDougall. She married Ewen Morrison and enriched their Clan too; our castle is certainly a popular visiting point for many interested Tourists, who often ask for confirmation of their search route...always a delight to confirm , encourage and bless their interest!
