The Elevator Calls

The Elevator Calls

I was stuck in an elevator...now what do I do? I called 911 for help, I text-ed my family, I pressed the alarm button. The only thing TO do was to wait...and wait...and wait...I breathed out a big sigh, trying not to give in to my fear of claustrophobia. I could not go there, because then, I would have a full blown panic attack...and then, who knows what would happen to me! But how could I NOT panic? I couldn't get out! I was stuck! "HELP! HELP ME! CAN SOMEONE HEAR ME?" I shouted as loud as I could, over and over again, but I couldn't hear any signs of life out beyond the huge steel mass, that kept me trapped inside! It felt as though the room was getting smaller and smaller with every second. I pounded my fists on the door screaming, "HELP! PLEASE, I'M GOING TO GO CRAZY IN HERE! HELP ME!" But again, my efforts were futile; no one could hear me. My heart began to beat faster and faster. My thoughts became scrambled, only being able to think that I was going to lose my mind! I couldn't get control of myself! Oh my God, I was going to lose it! My breathing became heavier; it felt as though I couldn't catch my breath! I couldn't breath, I COULDN'T BREATH! I inhaled deeper and deeper, but, I, still, couldn't, catch, my, breath! I began, to feel, light headed, dizzy, disoriented, then...I hit the floor with a loud thump.

I wearily opened my eyes, trying to remember where I was. What had happened? Sitting up, I saw I was in an elevator, and then it all came back to me...I had been stuck, trapped inside! Right then, the elevator door slowly opened, and It stayed open, as if someone was holding it. I listened for voices, or noises from out in the hallway, but, nothing...it was eerily silent. As I stood myself up, I grabbed my purse from the floor, wondering WHY, the door was staying open, and HOW it got opened in the first place? There were no firemen, no building maintenance men...no one. This was very spooky, I thought, and then, as I studied the hallway, it didn't even look like MY apartment building! Where was I? It made no sense! Should I step out? I didn't know what to do, but, I couldn't stay inside either. As I began to step out, suddenly the elevator jolted, almost knocking me to the floor. I fell backward and grabbed the handle bar against the wall. My heart felt as though it was going to jump out of my chest, and I could feel myself sweating in fear. I started to step out again, then BOOM! Quickly the doors slammed shut...trapping me inside again!

"NO! NO! NO! AHH!" I screamed as I awoke, jolting myself upward out of sleep! Oh my God I thought, as I tried to calm myself down! Once again, I had awoken in terror from another bad dream. I looked at the clock, it was 3:20 a.m. So many nights, I wake at this specific time...what is it with this particular time of night? I couldn't make any sense of it. BOOM! Suddenly there was a loud noise that seemed to be coming from out in the hallway of my apartment. BOOM! There is was again. What is it? I rushed to my front door and peeked out of my peep hole; I couldn't see anything or anyone. BOOM! This time it was immediately followed by another one. I quietly turned the door knob, and slowly opened the door. I cautiously stepped out. I looked right and saw nothing, but as I turned to my left, I could see the building elevator. The doors looked like they were in the middle of closing, but just then, they began to open...ever so slowly. I stood gripped in fear. It was probably only for a minute, but it felt like it was an hour. As I stood watching, and waiting, for the doors to close, I could feel my heart jump in my chest. Something unnatural was happening here. I kept waiting for them to close, but they never did...they kept staying open. I started to feel as though they were, 'calling me to them, or...'taunting me'...perhaps, even...'daring me'...daring me, to come inside...
