Halker looked at Elsa.
Elsa said,
"The people of the government come right to see you, and give you meat to eat, and a shirt to wear. But you don't tell them anything about your wife. You put on a shirt and go out,
eating meat
I am not asked about anything.
Do you have anything to say to me?
Is Millarker's Flat Earth So Small?
Are you forgetting that the knowledge that is imparted is the stepping stone?”
Halker remained unmoved by Elsa's questions.
Elsa slowly leaned in front of Halker.
Halker saw Elsa's dry eyes staring at him.
Elsa stares at him intently for his answer. Elsa's eyes were telling her that she couldn't take her silence any longer. Halker remembered that one of Elsa's few wishes was to hear his answer. But what Elsa didn't know was that her thoughts silenced her. Halkar turned and walked away.
As he walked, Halker remembered that after a while Elsa would walk in. Halkar reached the room and looked at the sky through the hole in the wall. Halkar saw the lights in the sky begin to fade.
Halkar realized that it was late. Halker quickly picked up the shirt from the corner of the room and crossed his arms. Halkar was disturbed by the stench of the shirt. Halkar remembered that the government would give him a new shirt and meat one day or the next.
