Growing older than the sun

PHASEĀ ONE.
I was only 15, but to me I was already maturedĀ and felt I had wasted a huge part of my life; I knew I grew old the day I gained consciousness lol. IĀ wanted to set out to try out the temperature of life, to live my own story away from this shield my mum provided for me, to experience life as raw as possible, to live my own story andĀ adventures. IĀ knew that sooner or later I would definitely have to fend for myself,Ā thus I saw no reason why I should wait until society thinks am old enough to face the cruel face of life.
Ā IĀ did think otherwise,Ā Ā mind you I was in Ghana , Africa a society where everyone is family to everyone, where a child is the daughter or son to anyone older, Ā a society where neighbors have the right to discipline a neighbors child like it were his own.
InĀ such a society everyone joins effort in bringing upĀ children,Ā caring for the old.Ā Ā In everything, you don't have to worry if there's no food in your house, you only have to visit your neighbor and that was it!Ā In this kind of society individualism is almost invisible, and interestingly visitors are treated like Gold jewels, we have always valued and still value visitors, itās a part of our culture.
So back to the main story, I knew there was no way mum would let me leave home, However I would regret if I didn't satisfy this thirst for adventure- experience away from protection, independence and freedom to some extent. I wanted to live life, so I made a very bold decision, a life changing one that I never regret. I chose to attend a boarding school.
I know you may not understand why choosing a boarding school was a life changing and bold decision. What you don't know is, I am originally Nigerian by place of birth and blood even though my mum was also Ghanaian. So my family moved to Ghana some years ago, settled in the Capital, Greater Accra Region of Ghana, and I chose to attend a school in a whole new Region, the Eastern Region.
First of all, I havenāt ever left home or been away from family, never been out of Accra to another region, worse of all I didn't know anyone inĀ this new region plus, I would not be allowed to come home or leave the school likewise no visitors were allowed until the last Saturday of the month. No phone or computers allowed, that is absolutely no contact with the outside world, to worsen it I couldnāt speak the local dialect (Twi) of the people. As I have always been to a privateĀ and expensive school where all we spoke was English which was mandatory. Just so you know I made this choice over a private school in the city but thatās not the worst,Ā
Anyway , I didn't change my mind, i couldn't imagine this place even if i wanted to , it was far from my wildest imaginations. THE WORST AND MOST DIFFICULT PART FOR ME WAS HAVING TO CUT MY HAIR FOR SCHOOL!!!!!!!!!!!! - IT WAS MANDATORY TO CUT MY HAIR!Ā
