The bathroom

I never lived alone before; I always lived with family or friends. Lately though I had suddenly felt the urge to finally move out on my own, but having my own place wasn't enough. I had to get away. So I packed my bags and headed out with my pet companion Morris; a rather large cat who I've had since I was a small boy. I decided upon a an old home that sat on top of a hill nestled in an old town. I was not familiar with it at all and had actually came across it one day after getting lost. I liked its old charm and decided this would be where I would settle and  within weeks I found a home that was for sale.

Soon I found that the home would need some work but I didn't mind as I knew that it was an older home and that was to be expected. Some of the old wood had rotted in the floor, walls had cracks and I was pretty sure the home needed new plumbing. Not really caring the only thing that had really caught my attention was the upstairs bathroom located in the attic. It was boarded up and I really wasn't sure why, the only thing the previous owner told me about it was "It just doesn't work." Normally this wouldn't have bothered me but the lack of information only aided me to grow even more curious.

After moving in I decided to take the attic as my bedroom. I'm not too sure as into why but I'd like to believe it was because it extended through out the whole home. It was a large and well finished room with great big windows facing the small town down below and there and off to the side was the boarded up bathroom: anyone could of mistaken it for maybe a shut off closet. I wondered what it looked like and if it really was a bathroom ... and if so why was it boarded up? Was it really that bad? What exactly was wrong with it? And why was there even a bathroom in an attic? It didn't really matter though at the time and I was just happy that I had finally settled in a place of my own.

I headed downstairs and shut off the lights. It was time to relax I decided and plopped down on the couch next to my cat, Morris. He was a bit uneasy about the move and for some reason would not go up into the attic but he'll just have to get used to it I thought.

I later awoke the next day on the couch; I must have been tired from unpacking so I shrugged it off. I got up and noticed that Morris was no longer by my side; I went to go look for him but he was no where in sight. I later found him at the foot of the stairs, gazing up at the attic. He did not move. He just sat there sitting perfectly; very statue like and until he noticed I was standing next to him. He then quickly ran away and again was no where to be seen.

What exactly was he looking at? I didn't not know but, I did notice that the door to the attic was wide open. Hmmm... strange I had thought. I was pretty sure I closed it on my way down last night. Oh, well. I went upstairs and quickly shut the door before making my way down.

It was still morning and I decided I would take a stroll around town to familiarize myself with it and the locals. There was only a few buildings and everything looked like if it was frozen in time, not exactly cheerful though. Quite eerie to be honest, I don't even recall seeing much of anyone. I'd have to try again on some other day, I thought.

I grew tired and thought maybe it was best to just go home. Finally, after a long walk back up the hill did I notice the light in the attic was on. I stood there still outside my home looking up into the attic. How could this be, I wondered. Didn't I shut off the light last night? I couldn't remember ever going back up there except that morning to shut the door. I started to grow afraid but my own logic kept my mind from believing that it could anything more than just an old switch.

I'd have to get that fixed I thought as I made my way to the through the front door, but that's when I heard it. Water.... it sounded like someone had let the shower run. It was coming from upstairs. In the attic. I was still, the air suddenly grew cold, this was not possible I thought. Yet, I was still very much afraid and not sure what to do. Gathering up all the courage I had I broke my stance and walked over to the stairs. At the foot sat Morris. I looked towards the attic and the door was open.

I knew at this time I was not alone in my own home. But, what waited for me in the attic I did not know. The sound of the water grew louder at every step I took up the staircase. I didn't even realize I was doing so until I reached the  door. It was as if something had came over me... like something wanted me to go up there. Something wanted me to see.

I was breathing heavily at this point. Fear had now consumed me but yet this force kept me going. I pushed the door completely open and stepped into the attic; lights still on but this only added to my fear. I took a step towards the bathroom causing the floor beneath me to creek quite loudly. Suddenly, the water stopped.

I stood there in silence. I was still afraid but I did not know how to register what had just happened. Was I going crazy? Did I just imagine this whole scenario? Maybe not knowing what laid beyond the boarded up door was getting to me. I let out a small chuckle. I was probably just over thinking this.

I would later that night find out how wrong I was. Exhausted from todays events I thought that it would be a good idea to take a small nap so I climbed into bed and soon fell into a deep asleep. I later awoke to the sound of scratching. I quickly got up and realized how late into the night I had slept; I sat there in the darkness of the attic listening to the scratching close by. I slowly got up and followed the sound. It was cold and all I could now hear was the creaking of the old house. I starred across the attic only to find two beady looking eyes looking right back at me sitting right in front of the bathroom door.

My heart dropped. The figure started to move towards me. I tried to let out a scream but nothing came out. I was frozen in fear. Only until it was about a foot away did I notice it was Morris,.... stupid cat. Still though, what was he doing up here? I quickly ran to turn on the lights as I was still afraid.

The bathroom was no longer boarded up. There it was. The door. I did not question how this was possible at the moment because I was too afraid to even let my imagination run wild.

I was trembling and shaking with fear... and excitement. I had the same feeling sweep over me... I for some reason wanted to see what was behind the door. I could now hear the water faucet slowly turn from the other side but this only added to the power that now struck me. Terrified I opened the door.

The small bathroom was full of hot steam and I could hear the shower now blasting. I pressed my fingers against the shower curtains ready to peel it back to see was stood behind it when suddenly I heard the door slam. I frantically hurried to open it but took a step back in disbelief... I was boarded in. I had no way of getting out.

From behind me I could hear the shower curtain rings being ripped down one by one.
