I REMEMBER THE DAY

Coming off the school bus there was my Dad with my bedroom suite on top of that borrowed truck.
I was just a girl confused not knowing that day how much more you changed my life besides the others before and after you.
You were my Dad and made some nightmares that I saw in my sleep that it was YOU.
I never got to say goodbye to my friends.
Everyone thought I ran away.
I was ten years old and nowhere to go.
Everyday for months you fed me your lies and made it sound like it was an adventure.
Not one I was enjoying.
I couldn't go outside. I couldn't go to school.
I had to stay away from the windows and the door.
You said Mom was coming.
Another lie.
You did it good.
Then that sound so unfamiliar yet so pleasing and exciting.
A knock on the door, I stood there not sure what to do.
So you did it.
You opened the door.
That day we said Goodbye.
Mom said for you to come home.
Not understanding the house was gone...
Mom had a one bedroom apartment.
You tried to destroy me, you were never happy if I smiled.
Laughter against all rules showing signs of happiness drove you crazy.
Take care Dad.
I hope you are enjoying your grave.
Peace I have now.
I can smile and laugh. Thank you for giving me peace.
Your Loving Daughter
