Ice on the Windows

I awake before dawn to find a swirling mass of flakes sparkling like diamonds in the wisps of wind. The window is frozen. On the inside it is as if you are staring through a poorly fired window, the outside you can make out natures etchings in the frost. A vision of serenity given form.

I do not want to get up, because I am safe and warm in his arms. The gentle warmth of his breath behind my ear. It had been a long night for him, he worked long past midnight. I do not want to disturb him, he is sleeping so peacefully.

In the ice on the windows, I can see a rippled blurry reflection of us. We seem to be frozen in time. If only it could be this way forever but alas, the ice will always melt eventually. I kiss his nose gently and get out of bed. I make myself a hot cup of coffee and gaze out the kitchen window. The sun is rising above the horizon shining brightly upon the fallen snow. A crystal blanket with diamonds shimmering down softly.

The day is calling and the ice is melting.
