The Idea To Change

Her name is Pieater, was briefly heard, but stops and steers jolted the nurses as their feet made music on the hospital floor. What did he say the baby girl's name was, asked one nurse to another depending on who was closer to the childish father, who thought that having a baby was another cause for a beer. I think he said Peter a stern nurse said with a rough manner as if over come with pity for the mother, who still seemed out of it to object.
The bundle in the mother's arms, was being fed heftily and did not notice her own surroundings had changed, but when the time came for her to release that which came in, the discomfort bellowed out with a cry that almost made a man out of her father. The name Pieater, rang out near and wide, so that the people expected to see a boy for more then one reason. The amount of noise the father made for his child and the varying commands demanded as the child grew were but few things that made neighbors think the child was a boy in pretty colors. Although the mother more then made up for her daughter's name, with curls and colors, Pieater, could not nor would not seize the steers of those who finally realize it was a girl and not a boy.
The child began to grow on her father, as her questions and gestures pillowed his nerves and caressed his hard day on the job with her smiles and will for helps. So much so, that the more he thought about it the more he began to be thankful she was a girl. Taking her fishing, only to notice his wife in her antics, and eyes and he began to see himself as she baited her own hook with pride and ability. At this a tear rolled down his cheeks and hit the water around the time her splash was made from her bait and hook. Yes, she was growing fast, and almost too fast for both father and mother to catch their breath.
The day came when she had to enter school where children's names mattered. As Dad picked up his love from her first day in that school, he heard her name being called in such a way that made children laugh almost in the same way he laughed in that hospital room to so many years ago. And for the first time, the whispers of the nurses and the soft spokeness of his wife came like a flood in his mind. His thoughts where broken up by the bursting pouncing girl with curls and a smile. Hi daddy! I had a wonderful time, I like that school!. You do? and then dad was silent, with thoughts of how fast can I get to the court house and how much would it cost to change her name to even Judy, maybe. DADDY???, oh oh yes honey, Im sorry. Did you hear me? oh yes, I heard you. With her feet barely touching the floor she set back as if in a hurry to come back school the next day. That night in bed, the father had a good mind to change her name.
The next morning for breakfast, the father asked his sweet daughter, how she would feel to have her name changed. Dropping her spoon almost in the bowl of cereal, she stood to her feet with all her curls bouncing.Noooooooooooo daddy, please!!! Momma momma please dont let daddy change my name. Mom began to have watery eyes, and almost a mixture of feeling. For one thing, just the thought of knowing her husband had a change of heart or that he could change period was working it's magic, or just the thought of having a strong willed daughter willing to stand up for what belonged to her. Yes in that home, there was change, and at the expense of growth, and whats more, love was too deeply shared that trouble didn't last long...nj
