Story -

James and the Big Fish.

One fine Saturday morning James a young lad of five and his dad a man named John in his twenties, both with short black hair and brown eyes, had decided to go fishing, which meant dressing in their fishing clothes.  Therefore, James with eager excitement firstly pulled a red knitted jumper over his head, arms, and chest. Secondly, he pulled pair of black jeans over his legs. Thirdly, he pulled onto his feet a pair of small blue wellington boots, which had little fishes painted on them. Fourth, he pulled a little red woolly hat on his head. Fifth, he pulled onto his hands a pair of red mittens to match his little red woolly hat, and last of all, over all these clothes James put on a brown anorak. Firstly, James dad, John put a white knitted jumper over his big head, arms and chest. Secondly, he pulled a pair of blue jeans over his large legs. Thirdly, he pulled onto his feet a big pair of black wellington boots.

Fourth, he put a large blue woolly hat on his head.

Fifth, he pulled onto his hands a pair of black leather gloves, and over all these clothes James dad John put on a big black overcoat.

James and his dad John then got together all their fishing stuff for their day of fishing.

They took with them,

2 fishing rods.

2 chairs that folded.

1 large net on a long pole.

1 enormous black umbrella to keep them dry, just in case it rained.

A big purple bag with one plastic washed out butter container full of fish bait of maggots, and some wrapped up sandwiches of cheese, ham, and jam, and a flask of tea and a bottle of pop to drink.

The slow walk to the canal from their house in Severn Street, in the quiet town of Liverton, took James and his dad John with fishing stuff in hand pass groups of houses similar to their house.

So on the way to the canal they had to take a sharp left at an old sycamore tree, which had been growing there for some years, this brought James and his dad, John to a lengthy lane with Blackberry bushes, Brambles, Apple trees, and Plum trees down each side of this lengthy lane.

Suddenly, a mass of Aphids, flying ants, and gnats were flying around their heads.  James and his dad, John then hit, battered, and slapped at the Aphids, flying ants, and gnats, with their fishing rods to make the Aphids, flying ants, and gnats go away but the Aphids, flying ants, and gnats are little difficult to scare away, so they did not go away.

Therefore, James and his dad John had to make a quick dash to the canal to get away from the Aphids, flying ants, and gnats.

On reaching the canal, they put down all their fishing stuff that they had brought with them onto the canal bank.

The 2 fishing rods.

The 2 plastic foldable chairs.

The 1 large net on a long pole.

The 1 enormous black umbrella to keep them dry.

The big bag with the plastic washed out butter container full of maggots, the wrapped up sandwiches of cheese, ham, and jam, the flask of tea and the bottle of pop to drink.

James dad, John then pushed the enormous black umbrella into the ground of the canal bank with one powerful shove, because it had a long metal spike at the end of the enormous black umbrella, for that very purpose, and then he opened it up to the enormous black umbrellas capacity.

They both unfolded the two plastic folding chairs and put them under the enormous black umbrella, and then James dad, John got out the sandwiches of cheese, ham, and jam, and the flask of tea for him and a bottle of pop for James from the big bag.

James sat in his chair with his jammy sandwiches in one hand and an orange pop drink in the other hand.

James dad John sat in the other chair with his cheese sandwiches in one hand and a cup tea in the other hand.

After eating, and drinking they both got their fishing rods ready and baited them with the little, soft, wriggly, and wiggly maggots from the plastic washed out butter container.

As James and his dad, John sat on the canal bank waiting for the fish to bite.

James remarked. “There’s a few fishing men here today dad.”

“Yes I know son, it’s a good spot at this canal.” James dad, John answered.

Then they saw some ducks, some swans, and some moorhens float, fly, and paddled by.

Then they saw dragonflies, butterflies, and bees flutter, buzz, and hovered by too, has they continued to sit waiting for the fish to bite.

Suddenly, after sometime of waiting James’s fishing rod started bending, wobbling, and shaking like a load of trees blowing in a wild storm.

“You’ve got a bite there son.” James dad, John said. “Hold on to it. I’ll help you pull it in.”

“I’ll do that dad.” James answered. “But I want to do it myself dad.”

“Okay, Son. But if you can’t.” James dad, John said. “Give us a shout. Okay!”

“Okay, Dad I’ll do that.” James said. “But only if I need you.”

So James tried to reel in the fish on his fishing rod line, but he was struggling has the fish got nearer the surface of the water of the canal.

That is when James and his dad, John then saw how big the fish happened to be.

“Woe...! That’s a whopper of a big fish son.” James dad, John said. “Pull it in, pull it in son. I’ll get the net.”

“Yes...! Dad, I know.” James said with panic in his voice. “You right there, dad.”

However, has James dad, John turned to get the large net?

The golden, glittering, big mouthed, long tailed big fish with one powerful mighty tug swallowed James into his mouth in one gulp.

All James dad, John could see of James was a pair of small blue wellington boots sticking out of the big fish’s mouth.

“I’ll get you out son.” James dad, John said. “Don’t worry, okay!”

“Okay, Dad, But it is Soggy in here dad.” James remarked. “Wet, squelchy, and mushy too.”

“Don’t worry son.” James dad, John said. “I’ll get you out of the big fish, son.”

“Hurry, slurp, Hurry, slurp…! Dad, I’m drinking yucky water here.” James slurped a reply.

James dad, John tried to grab at the golden, glittering, big mouthed, long tailed big fish with the large net, but he missed the big fish.

James dad, John tried again to catch the golden, glittering, big mouthed, long tailed big fish with the large net, but missed the big fish again.

James dad, John tried again for third time to catch the golden, glittering, big mouthed, long tailed big fish with the large net, but missed the golden, glittering, big mouthed, long tailed big fish once again.

Then the golden, glittering, big mouthed, long tailed big fish dived under the surface of the water of the canal, but James dad, John could still see the golden, glittering, big mouthed, long tailed big fish’s fin, which was sticking out the water of the canal.

James dad, John started racing down the bank of the canal with the large net in his hand, shouting, screaming, and yelling at the golden, glittering, big mouthed, long tailed big fish “LET MY SON GO.  I WILL GET YOU BIG FISH. I’LL GET YOU BIG FISH” The other fishing men joined him running down the bank shouting, screaming, and yelling after the golden, glittering, big mouthed, long tailed big fish. “WE’LL GET YOU, FISH. WE’LL GET YOU, FISH.”

Still when the James dad, John and fishing men all could not catch the golden, glittering, big mouthed, long tailed big fish, until suddenly the golden, glittering, big mouthed, long tailed big fish popped its head out the water again, were upon it spitted, spattered, and spewed out James from its big mouth onto the canal bank. You see the golden, glittering, big mouthed, long tailed big fish did not like James’s flavour, a sickly, cloth, and rubber taste, most horrible to him.

So Then the golden, glittering, big mouthed, long tailed big fish quietly sank away into the deepest part of the canal, which happened to be under the bridge, to await a more chewable, pleasant, and nourishing meal.

James dad, John and all the other fishing men gathered around James to see if he was all right. They all asked, “Is the lad okay, mate?” “Yes, just a bit wet”. James dad, John answered. “Just feeling shook-up from his ordeal”

They all said. “Okay, as long as he his feeling fine. We will leave you to it. Take care.”

Then all the fishing men when back to there fishing places on the canal bank.

John was over the moon with happiness to get James back from the golden, glittering, big mouthed, long tailed big fish that he totally forgot about catching the big fish anymore.

James and his dad, got all their fishing stuff together,

The 2 fishing rods.

The 2 plastic foldable chairs.

The 1 large net on a long pole.

The 1 enormous black umbrella.

The big bag with 1 plastic washed out butter container full of maggots, the empty sandwich wrappers, the flask that had contained the tea and the empty bottle that had contained the pop drink.

Then James and his dad, John went home, so James could get dry and get ready for bed. “It will be so good to get back home.” James dad, John Said.

“I know dad.” James replied.
